Welcome!

Our aim is to promote a high quality of life in Alberta by providing a fair, independent and accessible tribunal to Albertans to resolve environmental regulatory disputes on a timely basis.

About

The Environmental Appeals Board is an independent board that gives Albertans an opportunity to appeal certain decisions made by Alberta Environment and Protected Areas under:

  • the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act,
  • the Water Act,
  • the Emissions Management and Climate Resilience Act,
  • Schedule 5 of the Government Organization Act; and
  • the All-seasons Resort Act.

These decisions may include approvals, water licences, preliminary certificates, remediation certificates, administrative penalties, enforcement orders, and environmental protection orders.

The Board places a high value on its mediation program and encourages participants to use mediation as the preferred way to resolve appeals. Mediations promote open and collaborative discussions between the participants and encourages individuals to come up with their own solutions.

Environmental Appeals Board decisions are now located on the Norma website.  (The Board is in the process of updating the Norma - formerly Decisia - part of our website.  Please be patient.)
